40th anniversary of a classic of contemporary cinema in Cuba

Matanzas, (AIN). - The 40 years of the movie Lucia, considered to be a classic of contemporary cinema, were remembered in this city, during the XX Encounter of the 2008 Cine Club Yumuri Encounter. In the house of the writers and artists from this city, Eslinda Nunez and Adela Legra, main stars of the movies directed by the well known Humberto Solas, told anecdotes of the shooting movement and paid tribute to Raquel Revuelta, another one of the main stars. Revuelta, famous Cuban actress who died only a few years ago, played the part in the first story of Solas' trilogy, which was premiered on October 5, 1968 and which narrates in a friendly way the history of the fights for Cuban independence from a non-sexist gender language. Eslinda Nunez said that Lucia is indissolubly joined to her life; the character represented the insertion of women in everyday life and influenced even her behavior, added the actress, who shows a successful movie career. I am Lucia, stated Adela Legra, the only thing I lack from her is whatever is related to the reconciliation of the couple, because Lucia taught me to go beyond, to learn how to live, to stand strong in front of everyone, to understand other people, it was my revelation, she confirmed. Both artists, consecrated within the Instituto Cubano de Artes e Industria Cinematograficos (Cuban Institute for the Arts and Movie Industry) agree in their opinion that the movie by Solas went beyond every expectation and represents, together with Memorias del Subdesarrollo (Memories of underdevelopment), by Gutierrez Alea, prints in Cuban Culture. The XX 2008 Cine Club Yumuri Encounter will hand in today the awards to the more than 80 pieces in the modalities of videos, fiction, spot and cartoons, in which there are competing cine club members from all over the country.
