Camaguey to Host Santa Lucia International Festival

The XIX edition of the Santa Lucia International Festival will take place from 13th to 17th February 2012 in Santa Lucia Beach, located in the northern coast of the central Cuban province of Camaguey. Foreign visitors spending Cuba holidays in this eco friendly region during the festivities will surely have a wonderful time as they get the chance to participate in great party full of cultural, recreational and gastronomic events and activities, which help foster friendship among participants and highlight the key attractions of this natural destination, its pristine beach, sunny weather and the unique charm of its local people. Santa Lucia is a seaside holiday resort located 68 miles from the city of Camaguey. It is the main tourist destination in the eastern province with a 13-mile long beach. It is also a popular scuba diving destination for many travellers spending Cuba holidays in the northern warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. In this natural haven there are a total of 35 scuba diving centres giving divers the chance to explore the remains of marine wrecks and sunken ships from the 19th and 20th centuries and enjoy an unusual show in Nuevitas Bay where experienced guides feed sharks. Santa Lucia also has a very well preserved natural environment and pristine ecosystem, home to large colonies of pink flamingoes. Its coral formations, located just one mile off the coast, offer divers with an amazing display of vibrant and colourful marine life several species of underwater beauties. Camaguey is the largest province in Cuba. Numerous large keys are dotted along the southern coasts, while the northern coast is lined by the Jardines del Rey archipelago, which also is one of the most popular sun and sand destinations for beach holidays in central Cuba. This central province has one of the most important historical centres in the island which has also been declared a World Heritage Site and is one of the Cuban cities that best preserves the Spanish-Moorish features of colonial architecture.
