Cuba Has Broad Radio Network

Havana, Aug 28,- Cuba has a broad network of radio stations that reach faraway places in the Caribbean island, said Guillermo Pavon, vice president of the Cuban Radio and Television Institute (ICRT). Pavon recalled that there are 93 radio stations distributed in all provinces and municipalities of the country, including Radio Esmeralda, which was inaugurated six months ago in the town of the same name in eastern Camagey province. He added that 69 radio stations are local and some of them broadcast from mountainous areas, including a small station in Cocodrilo, in southwestern Isla de la Juventud, which broadcasts for a community of 500 people. Cuban Radio won six international awards this year at the annual event sponsored by the Caribbean Broadcasting Union to acknowledge the most outstanding works in that field. The general assembly of that organization, which is being held here until Saturday, is being attended by executives and representatives from 23 Caribbean countries.
