Cuba Interested in Hosting World Cocktail Bar Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 2. - Cuba is one of the candidates to host the 2010 World Cocktail Cup, considering its results in a recent continental competition held in Havana, reported DTC. The 12th Pan-American Cocktail Competition that recently concluded in the Cuban capital was attended by bartenders from a dozen countries. As a new element in these types of international events, the Cuban organizers decided to include the Fabio Delgado in Memoriam National Cocktail Contest in the program. In that contest, 27 bartenders competed in the Classic style and eight in the Freestyle competitions, representing all 14 Cuban provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth). Visiting the Cuban capital to attend the 12th Pan-American Competition of Cocktails scheduled this week at Havana Libre Hotel, Jose Ancona, IBA vice-president for North America highlighted that the Island has far surpassed all expectations of the barmen from about 15 countries present at the appointment. He highlighted that such result "corroborates that this country can organize a World Championship and that's how we will propose it - he said - and start struggling for the venue for 2011 edition", publishes today the Weekly newspaper "Opciones" (Options) in its website. Ancona affirmed that "undoubtedly, this has been the best Pan-American Competition so far. A magnificent event . he asserted . which makes us feel very proud because when we started these encounters in 1990, we were only five countries and professionals from 15 nations were already participating. "It's almost an IBA world competition. This has the whole bustling of a world contest, that's why I hope that Cuba might be able to organize the event of 2011", said the official. The official expressed satisfaction for the good organization, quality, and variety of the program of this competition that includes the cups Santiago Policastro "Pichin" and the Amistad "Edgard Rodriguez in Memoriam." The island will also participate in the 2008 World Cocktail Cup in Puerto Rico, and Alexis Callejas and Giovanni Cespedes will compete in the 2009 edition in Berlin, Germany.
