Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, January 26, - The Commission of National Monuments in Cuba evaluates the inclusion of the Cuban city of Sancti Spiritus, founded by the Spanish conquerors in 1514, among the proposals of the country to the consideration of UNESCO for its possible acceptance as Cultural Heritage of Humanity. According to Robert Vitlloch, director of the Historian Office of the city, which will turn half millennium of being created in 2014, including the town in the list of candidates will constitute recognition for the people of Sancti Spiritus. He noted that the previous assessment for these purposes should be done by the National Monuments Commission and the International Committee on Monuments and Sites. With this objective, he expressed, it is working in the historical center where buildings of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries like the Iglesia Mayor (Major Church), the Principal Theatre, the Yayabo Bridge, and the House of the Hundred Doors, converge. In this area, the oldest and best preserved in Sancti Spiritus, the pavement was reanimated in the colonial streets of La Guaira and Padre Quintero, and houses are painted and resurfaced. Another important task is the restoration of the Principal Theatre, built in the XIX century, which counts now with a capacity of 350 seats, a stage totally renovated and equipped according to international standards, six dressing rooms and its acoustics and lightings were improved. Currently, work continues on the Quinta de Santa Elena, located on the Yayabo River, future site of the Casa de la Guayabera, an institution designed for multifunctional purposes. At this moment, the first work restored and opened to the public is the House of the Hundred Gates, where is based the Colonial Art Museum.
