Ecosystem Recovery in Cuba's Largest Province

Camagey, Cuba, Oct 13, - Natural regeneration to herbaceous communities affected by hurricane Ike favors the recovering of the ecosystem in Camaguey, the largest of the provinces of Cuba. Local experts from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) affirmed the accelerated reappearance of coastal species, those most affected by the meteor. According to CITMA Environment Department Director Mayra Gonzalez, forest rehabilitation actions carried out after the passage of the hurricane support and hasten these natural processes. In statements to this agency, the specialist considered the rescue of the trees with possibilities of subsistence in the territory as vital. By its side, the tourist pole of Santa Lucia, famous because of its 21 kilometers of beach and also due to their 35 points of immersion and diving which was one of the most affected in Cuba by the hurricane Ike, contributes today to the rescue of his devastated coastal ecosystem. The famous tourism place which has also the greater coralline formation of the Western Hemisphere resumed its hotel services just two weeks after the passage of hurricane Ike without neglecting its traditional commitment with environment. In such sense it excels its contribution to the replacement of sands removed by the sea and the wind of the meteor. The recovery of the areas damaged in this northern beach site made possible the resumption of the tourist activities of the hotels Club Amigo Mayanabo and Club Caracol, hardly two weeks after Ike. Jose Rodriguez, Cuban vice-minister of Tourism, assured during a recent route by Santa Lucia that these works persecute to arrive at the high season in optimal conditions.
