Great expectations for the longest rumba in Cuba

Havana, (PL). - Expectations have been growing from the lovers of Cuban folkloric art as May 3 comes nearer. On that date people who make rumba and percussionists in the country will begin to play the longest rumba in Cuba. The event will last until next May 17, the day chosen for the gala to give the awards of the XII Cubadisco International Festival, in the Karl Marx Theater from this capital. The longest rumba in Cuba will begin in the eastern city of Holguin and it will last for more than 300 continuing hours in fourteen more cities of the country, with the national broadcasting company Radio Progreso as the link between the participating venues. Columbia, guaguanco, yambu and other folkloric and popular expressions that had its origin in Africa, will flow the country during those days, for the enjoyment of dancers and lovers of such genuine expressions of Cuban culture. Precisely, there have been nominated for the 2008 Cubadisco Award in the best folkloric music category, the Nani, with Divina creacion (Divine Creation), under the direction of Lazaro alvarez Bravo, where a testimony is given of the rhythmic and melodic wealth from the characteristic songs and rings of the so called spiritual masses. The other album for the most important award of the music industry of the country is Oru, Ritual y Fiesta de lo cubano (Oru, Ritual and Festivities of Cubans), by the famous composers Sergio Vitier and Rogelio Martinez Fure. The forum will pay a posthumous tribute to the legendary Cuban percussion players Tata G?nes (1930-2008) and Chano Pozo (1915-1948), as well as to all the other great rumba players in the history of our country. The longest rumba will be an excellent space for the knowledge and promotion of many artists of this branch of popular art.
