Havana Returning to Normality After Hurricane Gustav

HAVANA, Cuba, August, 31- Social and economic activities are being resumed in the Cuban capital, which suffered minimal damage by the passing of hurricane Gustav that swept the Isle of Youth and the western province of Pinar del Rio. Up to early Sunday morning, partial damage to 19 houses, and tree and branches blocking some streets in the city were reported. A few electric and telephone lines were also affected. Water, gas and transport services will be gradually restored in Havana City during the day, while brigades specializing in emergency situations, and the people in general, are working on the cleaning up of the city. Many of the 93,300 people evacuated in the territory are safe to return home after authorities evaluated the outcome of Gustav. Tourists staying in hotels located in low areas of Havana, who were evacuated are also being sent back to those facilities, said Ramon Zamora, Ministry of Tourism representative in Havana City.
