Latest record of Los Munequitos de Matanzas is in production

Matanzas,.- De palo pa'rumba, the latest record of the Cuban folk group Los Munequitos de Matanzas is in the production stage and will be launched by the end of this year. Diosdado Ramos, director of the group said in exclusive statement to AIN that the record is the fifth one with the production house Bis Music and includes over a dozen numbers, one of them is called "Homenaje a Chacha" and is a tribute to the founder of the group who died in 2007. We wanted to dedicate a number to Esteban Vega Bacallao, (Chacha), because he was one of the best Cuban percussionists and he left his legacy in the group, said Ramos and added the performance of the "quinto" element is important in the number, an instrument in which Chacha was truly a master. This time, the record is produced by maestro Frank Fernandez, with who the group has already recorded in Guaguanpiano, specially for a record that is being prepared by the famous pianist and composer and that is dedicated to pay tribute to his ancestors. Ta' Jose, El tren, Macorina, as well as other new numbers written by Freddy Alfonso, Rafael Navarro and Jose Andro Mella made this record, which has the help of the musicologist Cary Diez and the general direction of Ramos. Los Munequitos de Matanzas has a 55 year experience and presents a wide record production with over 600 numbers in their repertoire. They won the Grammy award in 2001 with the record La Rumba soy yo and won the Honor Award of the Cubadisco 2008 International Festival. They have taken their music with ancient roots to Brazil, Spain, Germany, Italy, Costa Rica, Belgium, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Panama, Mexico, Colombia, Switzerland, England, Martinique and 12 times played for the US public.
