Latin American, Caribbean Theater in Havana

Havana, (PL). - Actors and dramatists from Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Puerto Rico and Cuba will participate at the Latin American and Caribbean Theater Season "Mayo Teatral", from may 5th till the 25th in Havana. The seventh edition of the forum, permanently organized by Casa de las Americas in this capital, will offer an exhibition of the varied theater performance in the region, from a selection carried out by the same cultural institution. Theater La Candelaria, from Colombia, Malayerba, from Ecuador, La Maquina de Teatro, from Mexico, and Udi Grudi, from Brazil will be the foreign participants. Ofelia Medina, one of the first Mexican actresses recognized worldwide by her theater, cinema, radio and television career and her humanist work in defense of the indigenous populations of her country also confirmed her participation. Other guests will be choreographer Wilson Pico, considered pioneer of contemporary dance in Ecuador, and Puerto Rican actor Teofilo Torres, recognized in the region by the excellence of his monologues. Cuban spectacle will present show by winners of Villanueva de la Critica Prize, granted to best works of the country by the section of Critic of Theater and Dance of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba. Performances will take place in Havana capital, at Adolfo Llaurado Hall, Hubert de Blanck Theater, and Alternative Hall of the Cultural Center Berthold Brecht, Mella Theater, and National Museum of Beautiful Arts of Cuba. Mayo Teatral Theater Forum will also take place in other cities of the country ending in the city of Bayamo, second town founded by Spaniards in 1513 and declared National Monument and Cradle of Cuban Nationality.
