Montecristo Golf Cup to take place again in Varadero

Havana, Cuba, January 26, - The renowned Cuban holiday destination of Varadero will once again welcome the fourth International Golf Tournament Montecristo Cup, an international event that takes place every year since 2009 at the Varadero Golf Club. The above was given to know here by the organizers of the event who indicated that this time it will take place from April 19 to 21. The Vice President of the Montecristo Golf Cup Organizing Committee, Guillermo Gutierrez, said in a press conference that on this occasion it will be called amateur players from around the world to compete in three categories, two male and one female. The men will be divided into two groups; those who arrive with a card of up to 14 hits below par for the course will integrate the top category, while those having between 15 and 24 will form the second. Women will consider only this last criterion to be eligible in the competition, which will take the first day for practicing and to define the following two winners. In addition to these three divisions, it will be awarded the longer and the straight hit as well as the closest to the hole at the beginning of each individual round. Each year the event gains in attendance and quality, and this time, it will try to take advantage of its proximity to the U.S. Open, the second Major of the season, in order to get the attendance of recognized players from that country. Unfortunately, the economic and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States, put obstacles to American citizens who attempt to register for the tournament, as happened last year, when only one of 32 golfers interested in participate in the event, could make the trip, travelling through a third country to arrive in Cuba.
