"No-Budget" Film Festival to Award Best Movie on Marginalized Groups

The jury of the Sixth International "No-Budget" Film Festival, in Gibara, Cuba, will award the Latin American documentary that best expresses the values of small communities and marginalized groups. Sponsored by UNESCO, the "Cameras of Diversity Award" aims to sensitize the public to the importance of culture and national identities and to the need to safeguard and revitalize them. It also proposes to encourage community participation in audiovisual works with themes that highlight armed conflict, the impact of ill-conceived mass tourism, and the risk of the loss of diversity due to the imposition of a single model,. Other elements to be taken into account are the local effects of globalization, rural exodus and migration, and environmental degradation. From the 241 documentaries submitted to the event, only 16 were chosen from Greece, Italy, Spain, Palestine, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Mexico, Uruguay and Cuba. On April 20, the jury will announced the winners in fiction, documentary, unpublished scripts, video and projects in progress and model movies, along with eight additional awards that will be granted. The "No-Budget" Film Festival or Poor Cinema Film Festival as it is also known brings together more than 100 works in competition by filmmakers from 20 countries.
