Opening of the Castillo de la Real Fuerza Museum

Havana, (Habana Radio). - The Castillo de la Real Fuerza Museum opened its doors last June 6, at six o'clock in the afternoon. This institution is especially dedicated to highlight the values of the fortress which is its most valuable piece. On a tour over the history of naval construction in Cuba and especially in Havana, from the 16th to the 19th century, the new museum has fourteen exhibition areas. With educational and didactic purposes, this museum aims, among others, themes related to the wealth of the New World, naval models, collections rescued from the sea bottom and marine navigation instruments. The Real Arsenal from Havana, the Santisima Trinidad, have also found a place on this place destined to preserve investigate and exhibit the themes related to naval construction in our country. Among the purposes of this institution is the design of a socio-cultural project directed to different public groups, from the most general groups to the most specific ones. The community will also be an important target of the museum which will undertake actions for children and the elderly from the surrounding area. Commemorations, conferences, videos, temporary exhibitions, courses and workshops, will make up the cultural program of this institution that is added to the system of museums from the Direction of Cultural heritage from the Office of the Historian of the City. The scientific investigation, on the other hand, will also occupy the time of its specialist who are in charge of the documentation and preservation of the pieces of the museum, as well as the study of themes related to the profile of the institution.
