Renovation actions take place in colonial Cuban Villa

Trinidad, Cuba, January 25, - Two years before arriving to its half millennium of existence, Trinidad, the third village been founded in Cuba by the Spanish conquerors, receives the benefits of an ambitious program of renovations of housings, cultural institutions and properties of patrimonial value, developed by the ministries of Culture and Tourism, and the Office of the Conservative of that territory. The 2011 program provided the rehabilitation of areas of historical and tourist interest like the Tres Palmitas and the Jigüe Squares Santa Ana, Mayor and Carrillo, with their respective environments; the Punta Brava park, the Museum of Architecture, the History Archive, the Alameda de Concha and some details of La Caridad Theatre, besides rectification works on sidewalks and paved streets. It took place also the patching and upgrading of some 500 houses in different parts of the city's historical center, declared, along with the Valle de Los Ingenios (Sugar Mill Valley), a World Heritage Site and considered one of the populated urban centers best preserved in Latin America. According to Norberto Dorta Carpio, director of the City's Conservative Office, the work undertaken by the institution included also the setting of the entrance to the town, the cleaning of the access road to San Isidro de los Destiladeros, and various actions in the yard of Manaca Iznaga. The restoration of eaves in major avenues of Trinidad and the placing of a signal system throughout the city and the Valle de Los Ingenios were also among the works carried out by the mentioned Office in the just ended year. Specialists believe that the contribution of the different entities of the territory and the popular movement emerged in this context, could contribute significantly to the preservation of the patrimony and to the development of a cult and sustainable tourism.
