Trips to Cuba and Cuba holidays to be promoted in USA

Las Vegas, USA, August 26,- Although tourist travelling on Cuba holidays remains illegal for most Americans, that won't stop promoters from talking about it at an exposition next month in Las Vegas. The annual event of the U.S. tourism industry, called The Trade Show, will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from September 13 to 15 and will include a booth and seminar on travel opportunities to Cuba. "Last year we had to turn people away from this well-received session," boasts John McAuliff, coordinator of the Travel Industry Network on Cuba. After the lifting of the travel restrictions to Cuban-Americans to Cuba, McAuliff and others who oppose the U.S. embargo expect the next step to be removal of restrictions for those who travel for educational, cultural, religious and humanitarian purposes. Despite the current restrictions, an estimated 40,000 travelers make clandestine trips to Cuba each year, most through third countries. Many in Congress support legislation that would allow all Americans to travel to Cuba. However, the White House and congressional leaders seem intent on moving cautiously before making further changes in Cuba policy. At the Trade Show in Las Vegas, the seminar on Cuba travel opportunities will be moderated by Bob Whitley, president of the U.S. Tour Operators Association. Participants will include Christopher Baker, author of six books on Cuba; Lisa Simon, president of the National Tour Association; and Andrea Holbrook, president of Holbrook Travel.
