Week of German Theater Underway in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 19,-The third week dedicated to the German theater is underway in Havana through November 23 with presentations by Cuban and German theater troupes on different stages in the Cuban capital as one of the highlights of the program German theater director Armin Petras, writer Fritz Kater, playwright Philipp Lohle, among other artists from that European country will be leading workshops on the most recent trends of the German theater. A seminar called Theater and Society will be taught as part of the activities scheduled for this week. The classes will be dealing with the translation of theater texts, new ways of making theater in Germany, and cultural initiatives and urban development. A series of movies by German filmmaker Rainer Fassbinder will be screened at the theater of the Cuba's Union of Artists and Writers. Among the films to be played are the documentary "I don't want just for you to love me", and the long-feature films "Lola" and "Lili Marleen". The program also includes the presentation of a DVD with the work of Armin Petras and of the book "Fight City Vineta and Heaven", by Fritz Kater, published by the Alarcos publishing house. There will also be an exhibition of the current set design trends in Germany and meetings with Cuban playwrights.
